What's the crack with getting your boat to a foreign land?

Are there any airlines that are best to avoid or that just wont take them?

How much do airlines change to typically charge for carrying a kayak?

Or is it all very specific to the destination your flighting to?

Sorry for all the questions, but i guess you're the people who know!:)

In the good old days you could blag it on if you made enough of a fuss at the check in desk. These days its harder and iv ehad to pay (£60 each way to west coast of North America).
The only ruse ive heard of is to pack playboats in a bag and book them on as surf boards, which apparently have no charge. Not tried it myself though.
where you heading?
