Ive messed around with rainchasers and have come up with this page to try and compress the links needed to decide where to go boating here;
http://www.rainchasers.com/whats-up.html
Any thoughts are welcome - im just working on how I use the site when im doing the 'friday forecast' thing. What do you folk think?

A realy good idea! How about a user generated "if X is running then look at Y"
Just a way of saying if one river is running, have a look at X,Y,Z as they run at similar levels. Obviously would be done with the user generated levels page. Just a thought, probably not explained myself well there, but you get the idea?

Yeah, i think i got your drift. Its a good idea, but as with anything on the river observations stuff it requires enough contributions to make it really work. This has been an issue in the past.
Im hoping that just by keeping working at it we can get pretty much real time info available by this method. I think the breakthrough will be when enough people have got free internet connection via mobiles to use the wap functions. Then you can post and read while out and about and not just when on a PC.
Until the EA get their act together with their online gauges its all we have to go on. The only other possibility is to set up some gauges of our own. Ive got schematics of how to do it and am hoping that the film night will make enough cash to buy the bits.
then all we need is and electrical engineer, a site on a river that would be useful (with mobile coverage), figure out how to plug the SMS data into a web freindly format in real time, pay for the connection costs, and BINGO!
Going back to the original idea though, if we can get good data then it should be possible.

Nice idea Atti though it'd take some programming.

I was just thinking you could add a link to the Met Office forecast. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/

now't too advanced! It's been a busy day! :p
