yep its the swale - rainby force. The double bluff of two swale pics in one thread failed. I should have cropped the image more!

How about Scandale Beck

Jon
16-10-2007, 10:28 PM
Captain you are indeed incorrect!;)

Captain Scum
16-10-2007, 10:31 PM
In that case - Stock Ghyll

Jon
17-10-2007, 10:12 AM
Well done Captain that's spot on. Stockghyll Beck.

The picture is from when I worked for a structural engineer and we had to drop the 7m tall retaining wall and rebuild without loosing any of the houses into the water.

Apologies to any paddlers who wanted to paddle the beck during those 2 years that I was blocking it. It's all back now, complete with the archway that spans the gap in the bedrock. I did here at some local kids used the pipes as water slides although I guess the landing / exit would have been quite painful.

Have you got a picture for us Captain?

ned
17-10-2007, 12:38 PM
I'll disqualify myself from the latest picture (as i was on the trip), but going back to Stock ghyll, your efforts in blocking the beck werent entirely succesful, It had several runs while the scaffolding tunnel was up, although that first move was fully scary - I wonder what would happen if they started using fixed scaffolding poles sticking in the water in Slalom comps?!
Makes it seem tame now its all come down now!

17-10-2007, 02:58 PM
I think im being a bit slow here

Im fairly sure its me in the pic but cant remember what boat im in or what drop it is:confused:

callwild
17-10-2007, 04:55 PM
Sorry Steve its not you that why you don't recognise the boat.
Cant remember if Richard was there or not.

Ok, I take my disqualification back! In which case i just dont know. It looks like its on that rock up on the westerrn side of the pennines?
I thought it was one of those drops on at the top of the Belah, but I guess not now.

Captain Scum
17-10-2007, 08:02 PM
is it the hindburn

callwild
18-10-2007, 01:58 PM
Not Belah or Hindburn although the first is closer.
Crossword Clue
A hot bank holiday in May spent in a small valley.

I must try weird pictures of more popular rivers in future, rather than pictures of weird rivers!!

steve ed

callwild
24-10-2007, 08:42 PM

Its at the confluence of two rivers!

robbeale
24-10-2007, 11:12 PM
Not a dickie! Need a clue!!

callwild
26-10-2007, 01:37 PM
Didn't think it was that hard.
You all obviously spend too long south of Dunmail Raise.
A play spot at the junction of two popular rivers, north lakes, the eddy line is pretty unique.
More Clues, hmm,...... are those oak trees in the background?

robbeale
26-10-2007, 05:59 PM
confluence of Greta and Derwent?? Far out guess!

callwild
27-10-2007, 02:12 PM
Not that confluence, although I wish it was as it would be easier to access.

Frith
28-10-2007, 07:54 PM
Is it on the upper Derwent at a funny fold line? At the confluence with Langstrath Beck?

If it is I've had some great fun in a fully bagged open canoe there. Virtually filling it up and sinking then popping out again. Cool bit of water.
