My son has just take up kayaking this year, and it took me back to a sport I left 20 years ago, but after the offer of a quick paddle with the local club on a run with the kids I was hooked all over again. Since then I have bought both of us boats and as much kit as I could persuade my wife to allow! Its been 7 months now, but we are both loving it.. Here is out report from last weekend in Yorkshire with some of the club. 09/12/07
:)
We put in at Arncliffe Church and ran the river Skirfare, good little run down joining the river Wharfe. We then dropped the water falls at Coniston and enjoyed good wave trains all the way around. The flow was high at Ghaistrills strid and I made Alex Portage as we adults took on this section. After letting him back on at the bottom section, he splashed through the waves before we reached Grassington bridge. We then paddled down to the weir above Linton falls, and slid down the right side next to the old mill house. We all them portaged Linton Falls; below Grassington over the stepping stones and around to Loup Skar at pace before the village of Burnsall our last stop. It was 18Km on the map and 100ft of decent, but the flow made it feel like a 5km paddle. The weather was also kind, as the sun came out for a few hours and kept us from getting cold.
The river level is still good, so i would take a look if you get the chance..
