If you are out on the river please report who swims in this thread!
This is not to humiliate anyone, quite the contrary... it's to reward those people for their efforts and for entertaining fellow paddlers, obviously when done in safety. The swimmer must be a registered user of the forum to qualify and the report must be corroborated by witnesses.
The winner at the end of the year will receive a special 'Death Before Portage' prize!
Safe swimming!

i think i may have a possible contender
my protective dad rob
with 30 years of paddling under his belt he feels it safest if he runs all rapids first ( hense the name crash test dummy :D)
and i with my loss of consentration on the line
so both he and i will be eyeing up the awards :)
Sam
that reminds me, you can put 'callwild' down for one! A gloroius little surf in the hole at the bottom of right angle falls on the etive! Entried by an excellent back loop. Fine work, deserving of credit!

How about the video evidence that I really was held in there.
Although it never looks as long as it feels when your are upside down.

do i qualify
As you are a registered member of the forum you do. Incidentally your recent swim has already been added to the tally and you will be pleased to notice that you are winning the competition at present. :)
Next year i'm thinking of adding the distance of the swim as a tie-breaker!

Although he's not a registered forum member, what about a special prize for the kayaker who's just returned from the 5 year swim??
That was the Harold Bishop special! Bit of extreme way of dropping the missus!

I should also add on The Sprint three times before someone else does.
The first two were before any real action ....lots of treesover hanging on the Narrow, pushed over tried to roll and paddle got wedged underwater branches and all sorts.
Then I nailed S-bend thought I was unbeatable and ****ed up on the one by the bridge and am now in a sling!
A good day though, despite the popped shoulder.

Jon, the above 3 swims were all witnessed.
sorry to hear about the shoulder liam. How is it?
If it was Garnet Bridge, I too injured my shoulder on that drop a couple of years ago. Hope it gets better quickly Liam.
P.s. Those swims will get you to joint top place with Captain Scum!

Thanks for concern Ned.
The first two were Trees (which scare me horrid) you can get trough them, everyoe did with some rolls. But they made me uneasy and opening eyes underwater was a mess of roots and branches unsettled me. Got me cold and knocked my confidence but otherwise ok.
The other.
Well its interesting its the first 'bad' swim Ive had in tems of rough or injuries. I did take a large swim on Findhorn and went deep but Ive never had to come of river and never been in pain because of it.
I had a big think about it on walk back to car still need to collect my thoughts on it. It wasn't a huge event by any terms but a few things to take from it.
Ill have think udate my blog and give you a summary.
Shoulders painful cant lift arm passed chest and leaning on it hurts. It felt liked it popped but seemd ok when I got to bank.
Look forward to the blog liam.
take care of that shoulder, your gonna need to to be right! Can you get some advice about exercise and stretching regimes to build it back up?

:eek:Sorry lads and ladies , i would win hands down . Just need a few member's to take me out ...
Magpie - you're too late for the 2007 swim counter but by the sound of it you'll be high up on the 2008 swim counter. If there's water around there's a group, including myself, who meet at Greenodd petrol station 9am on Sundays.
As for the 2007 swim counter and the converted swimmer of the year award, I am currently awaiting confirmation of a number of swims taken by CallWild between Christmas and New Year.
Keep an eye out, I'll announced the winner in a few days.

Jon.
Can I claim my swim on the Leven just afore Xmas - then there'll be four of us with four fishes!
Swimmer!!!!
I don't know!! At the beginning of the year you're all trying desperately to keep a clean sheet and now.... you're all collecting Fish like you're in a fishing competition.
Consider it added Swimmer!

Guess I'll own up before the others post them.
Friday Dec 28 on Wasdale Beck. Emergency exit on approach to a river wide strainer 3/4 of the way down first steep section. Louis & Chris had the only eddies. Choices were bail and try and get through the small gap between branches alone or try it in my boat. I made it through after being caught by my deck on a branch. Fortunately deck ripped. Boat ended up being well pinned by a branch, so was very lucky wasn't still in the boat.

After that I fell back in while getting out of my boat in an eddy on Aira Beck!!!
Monday Dec 31 on Ingelton Falls. Missed the crucial boof in Baxen Gorge and after trying to roll under the fall got out and was promptly recirculated 3 or 4 times. Quite scary and not recommended. Hardly got any air and was wedged amongst rocks on the bottom a couple of times. No possibility of rescue from this dark place. Like to think I wiggled myself along the bottom a bit to get out but probably just luck. All caught on video I believe.
This was the place, bottom of second fall but with a little less water luckily!!

that tree looks fugly! As does the video of your swim. Unfortunately its through a misty lens but i'll give the tape back to kris (who filmed) and get it up somewhere.
Lucky in comparison to the innocent looking crake.
Your going to some lengths to win this competition!
Nasty stuff! Can't count falling out of your boat whilst trying to get out.
Seems like a very desperate attempt to win the competition!;)
The swim counter is now closed.
Winning the 2007 DBP Swimmer of the year award is:
Liam Kirkham, Swimmer!, Captain Scum and Bionic Bunny.
Congratulations and a very big thank you, on behalf of all your fellow paddlers for the entertainment and pleasure you have given us. Safe swimming! Prizes will be sorted soonish.
