As per Ned's recent warning.....
There is a river wide tree on the Troutbeck, just upstream from Troutbeck Bridge (the normal get out). The river has steep stone walls either side here making (IMHO) a portage impossible and the tree is very dangerous (deadly). I can't think of any alternatives other than trying to stop before the last rapid and getting out river left (will need to check access (both technical and riparian).
The tree is clearly visible from the road.
I paddled the river on Friday at a high level and there was only one tree portage (that has been there for some time). BUT Friday night we had very strong winds here, so given the amount a dead trees currently near the river, I imagine that this will not be the only new tree.
Please paddle with extreme caution!!!
Oh and just a plea - please egress on river left (either at the Garage or Troutbeck swimming pool) AND NOT river right, involving climbing over a dry stone wall, crossing a busy road with boats and parking on private property (Post Office), like the group I saw on Friday afternoon.
Happy Paddling, Be safe.
