A while ago I went to a talk by Alan Ellers of River Deep Mountain High. He was chatting about his many expeditions / first decents down uncharted rivers in lands far away.

Google earth has become one of his pre-trip scouting tool to see where there might be major rapids, falls and or portages all from the comfort of his own home.

I thought i'd have a look and see what Google Earth was all about....

Seems to me that most area's Cumbria aren't a high enough resolution to view the rivers properly but I did get a great view of the Teeside Whitewater Course. Looks like the tide is in and the water is switched off!

Anyone else had a play with it?

The water there is often very peaky especially after heavy rain.

I think i'd prefer 100 mouthfulls of Teesides water to 1 from Home Pierrepont.

Teeside for me is like a big night out, great fun at the time but always makes me ill afterwards.

You must have a weak constitution! ;) You better not paddle at Holme Pierrepont if Teeside makes you ill.

Honestly though, I've paddled at Teeside a lot and never suffered any illness afterwards. I've been told that drinking Coke is good protection against becoming ill after paddling on dodgy water if that helps. Not tried it myself.
