Any idea what the rescue helicopter was doing there today at around 12? Drove past on my way to Blawith and they were hovering over the bridge. Five minutes later when friends drove past they apparently set off a red flare. Any ideas?
Dont know tom
At least one bridge is down on the crake. the one between spark and Penny bridge near the road so the bits of it are somewhere downstream.
Spark bridge is closed (it has a crack in it)
I believe that some residents of Spark Bridge where airlifted. I guess they must have been unable to cope with being cut of by the Crake at it's peak flow.
Can anyone confirm that one of the road bridges over the Crake has been destroyed?
Spark bridge is still standing - heard a rumour that the top one (browns bridge?) near water yeat, is badly damaged but I havent checked.

The bridge at Water Yeat (Bouthrey Bridge) is damaged. On the upstream side part of the central arch, parapet and road has collapsed. I met a couple of highway maintenance guys at it. They said that Spark Bridge was closed until they check it, and that they had to put fences up on Backbarrow Bridge as people were walking over it ...

Driving past the Crake today, the footbridge across the river below Spark Bridge looks to have collapsed, acting as a strainer across the whole river.

I had a walk along the Crake looking at the bridges
starting from Coniston Water
Bouthrey Bridge at Water Yeat
is damaged on the upsteam side (see swimmers photo) . access across the bridge has been blocked off for safety
The Old fishermans bridge is still standing and seems fine
Lowick Bridge seems fine no problems
Foot Bridge above Bobbin Mill rapid couldn't really see. there was a tree on top
see captain scums photo
Spark Bridge was open and seems fine
The old rickerty foot bridge below Spark bridge has collapsed and is in the river
Penny Bridge is fine
Greenodd Bridge is fine

A few of us had a low level paddle down the Crake today
from Coniston to Spark bridge
the only hazard was a small tree across the river
just after the damaged Bouthrey Bridge at Water Yeat
which was easily paddled round on river right. might be more of a problem in higher water
I've had reports that debris has accumulated around spark bridge and it has caused problems to paddlers. Caution is advised with inexperienced groups.

The tree below Bouthrey bridge mentioned in thread has been removed.

The bridge appears to have been removed from the river although a blue water pipe has been left across, in the water.
