Default Gauge calibration so far

Ok this is a bit tentaive and we really do need more data points (please!) but just so we get what we have out asap;

Duddon gauge. If its reading over 1 then your on for good high flows on all sections. The right hand line on Wallowbarrow's main drop opens at 0.9 metres and the upper may be 'on' from around 0.75 (?). This figure will give a nice gentle flow on the middle and lower sections. It may be possible to float the lower section at levels below this but havent got the data yet.

Greta gauge. Over 1.0 again represents a good flow and the river will start to get 'bouncy' with the water up to the grass in keswick at 1.08m. The 'line' at the get in as at 0.88m and the river will be between the steps at keswick. Again we are not sure what represents a minimum flow.

We have only one data point for the Eamont only so need more to make some sense of it.

We have some images of these readings and which i will sort into something easy to read when we have a full picture. We can only really improve the graphics on the map page when this task is completed.

cheers to sean, slime, rachel, andy and rockrat for the info so far

Default Lower Duddon

Ned.

Had a wander over to the Duddon this afternoon and took these photos.

Duddon Bridge approx 3:00 this afternoon. The bridge piers on the upstream side of the bridge may be a useful reference point?

Ulpha Bridge to follow.

Piccys are rather small, but that's all I'm allowed to upload. Have full size ones if they're useful.

Dave.

nice one dave - thanks. this mornings reading was 0.66 (9.30). I guess there would be no significant difference between those pics and that reading but I will check with the EA.

better res could be useful at some point if you have a mo - mail to ned 'at' rainchasers.com but there is no rush.

DCC had a paddle down the Lower Duddon today. Pretty much the same level as when I took the photos on Friday.

The right hand line on Duddon Hall Bridge was running well. A good fun level.

Piccys attached. Bridge pier at Duddon Bridge taken about 10:00. Unfortunately I forgot to look when we'd finished.

I'll send larger pics direct.

Dave.

If it's of any use at all, the Greta was about 6-8" above the white marker at the put-in today. That would probably have been about 2.30pm

thanks for those.

i need to collect it all up sometime. Soemtime this week i'll try and collate it and make a stab at setting the numbers. After that its back to shorty again to work out the geeky stuff !

I think the key piece of info we are short of at present is the lowest reading of 'respectable' flow on the eamont.

maybe someone culd catch it as it drops?

cheers

Quick question: I know that the gauges are only updated once per day, but how many data points do you get in each update?

I.e. this gauge (for hawaii sur rhone) is only updated twice a day (I think), but when it updates, all the intermediate data points (every 15 mins?) are completed.

Wheresthewater also does this, and it makes looking at the trends much easier (i.e. after the rain on tues, working out when the river peaked, and how long it takes to drop off, so that after a similar rainstorm.

How was Upper Torver on Tues? Any pics? Where did you start at/finish at?

we just get the one data point routinely. We can request more but not any real time. could do a trend thing but so much could happen to the levels between the two points we decided it would largely useless.

torver was good - really steep and narrow but quite straightforward i was going to say clean but that would be stretching it! needs to be pretty high and raining - then id recommend it for a good giggle! Id certainly do it again so it must have been alright

some crappy pictures on the blog from after i got off so it had dropped off more
